It never snows here at Christmas
Around 22 °C, sunshine and palm trees – so I draw the snow myself. Send a hand-drawn Christmas card this year: buy it, download it and print it at home.
Look closer
From a distance the image, up close the heart
Every line in my work is made of words – so small that you only see the shape until you come closer.

Showpiece
The lion
An almost life-size lion’s head. Every strand of the mane, every whisker and the calm, deep gaze are made of tiny handwritten words.
The butterfly
Every line in my work is made of words. In this butterfly I wrote mariposa – Spanish for butterfly – hundreds of times, so small that you only see the shape until you come closer.

Portrait
Freddie Mercury
A portrait of the legendary singer, written entirely by hand. From a distance you recognise his face; up close, every shadow turns out to be made of words.
From word to portrait
Watch the words appear
The camera starts between the tiny words and slowly moves back – until the whole portrait looks at you.

Gallery
Portraits, animals & places
From a lion’s head to a 1.8-metre-high giraffe – every line written by hand.

Meet the artist
Hello, I’m Mirjam
Since 2013 I have lived and worked on La Gomera, one of the smallest Canary Islands. In my shop and studio in San Sebastián I write calligrams – images made entirely of tiny handwritten words – and create Beach-Art from sea glass I find on the island’s beaches.
“When a client is surprised or moved, my mission is accomplished.”
